Lewis & Clark Nature Walk at Giant Springs State Park

Great Falls, Montana

The Lewis and Clark Nature Walk lies on a bike path that runs along the Missouri River just outside Great Falls, Montana. A multi-agency visitor center focused on the Lewis and Clark Expedition lies on a bluff above the bike path, and many users of that facility supplement their experience with a stroll on the bike path, which is also very popular with local residents.
The interpretive panels that EDA planned, designed and fabricated were installed as part of the Bicentennial celebration of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The nature walk lies across the river from the path of the famous portage made by the Corps of Discovery during the summer of the expedition’s second year.
The unifying theme of the interpretive panels is the sweeping change in the Montana landscape since the expedition passed more than two centuries ago. Specific topics include grassland birds, invasive plants, ranching practices, the disappearance of the bison and native fish of the Missouri River.
